Derek Mitchell is one of today’s most sought out choreographers and was recently the Original Resident Choreographer for the Tony Award winning musical Hamilton (1st National Tour). He has choreographed projects utilizing almost every style of dance and that versatility makes him an asset to any project. He has numerous credits in TV, Film, Stage, Commercials, Music Videos and Concerts. Some of those credits include: Choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance Ukraine, Nintendo Hands up in the Air Live Commercial with Jordan Fisher, the NBA Playoffs Nationwide Flash Mob Event, Ameritrade National Conference with Hillary Clinton, The Wendy Williams Show, Cornell University Gala, Broadway Bares Benefit and The International Kids Emmy Awards. Derek has created, directed and choreographed the Off-Broadway dance drama Thin Line at Dance Theatre Workshop, starred in the Off-Broadway productions of The Karaoke Show and The Donkey Show. Derek has formed Derek Mitchell Dance Company which performed at Choreographers Carnival, Sirens After Dark, Pushing Progress, Young Choreographers Festival, The BDC 25th Anniversary Gala, Sybarite, Brooklyn Dance Festival and the Capezio A.C.E. Awards. Derek was even nominated 3 years in a row for the Capezio A.C.E Award for Choreographic Excellence. Once on the cover of DanceTeacher Magazine in 2014, Derek Mitchell has an immeasurable career as a Dance Educator. Teaching for almost 25 years, Derek has taught master classes all over the world including The Joffrey Ballet Summer Intensive, NIKE BLAST 2013 in Sweden, The Complexions Winter Intensive, Argentina, Paraguay, England, France, Ecuador, Germany, Czech Republic, Mexico, Costa Rica, Brazil, Japan,Italy, South Africa, Israel, and Canada. Currently, Derek teaches Street Jazz and Contemporary on both coasts at Broadway Dance Center and Edge Performing Arts, and tours with Revel Dance Convention, bringing his infectious spirit and invaluable instruction to young dancers nationwide.
